Getting Started & How Cogi Helps
-
Unlike traditional consultants, I focus on a research-basedand data-driven strategy, that prioritizes affordability and long-term student success over prestige, rankings, or marketing hype.
I match college data and student data to find well-performing, affordable schools that:
Best align with the student’s academic and interpersonal characteristics.
Position the student as a stand-out applicant, increasing chances of stronger financial aid offers.
My approach best supports middle-class families, who often struggle with costs when financial aid favors either low-income or high-income families.
College success doesn’t end with an acceptance letter—I also help students build a personalized college success plan so they can navigate challenges and thrive during and after college.
-

The College Planning Journey
-
My process adapts to each family’s timeline, but the full journey typically includes:
Understanding Your Needs – I assess needs and discuss goals, challenges, and priorities.
Building a College List – I collect data, analyze options, and curate well-matched schools.
Application Guidance – Tracking support and resources, strategy and guidance throughout the application process.
Financial Aid & Decision Support – I help evaluate aid offers and weigh options strategically.
College Success Planning – A personalized plan to help students effectively respond to challenges and thrive once enrolled.
Need help with only one step? I offer targeted support, too, for every Waypoint in the journey.
-
I don’t like the word “should.” There’s an ideal timeline, and then there’s reality—families start when they can. The earlier, the better, but meaningful planning can happen at any stage. Here’s what that can look like:
Middle School (Ideal Start) – Lay the groundwork for success by building academic habits, professional skills, and individual agency. Encourage curiosity about different careers and help students develop strong study habits.
Transitioning to High School – This is a key milestone. Celebrate the transition, talk about what to expect in high school, and begin envisioning life after graduation. Even if college is uncertain, students should start thinking about at least one career area (knowing this will likely change).
Early High School (9th & 10th Grade) – This is the time to develop key academic and problem-solving skills while exploring college and career options casually. Students can:
Take practice standardized tests to identify strengths and areas for growth.
Complete career-interest quizzes to generate ideas.
Begin forming a realistic sense of their academic profile (GPA, strengths, and interests).
Junior Year (11th Grade) – Now, things get more strategic. Students should:
Prepare for and take standardized tests (PSAT, SAT, ACT), even if planning to attend test optional/test blind schools. The practice and experience is helpful more than the score, and scores still help in identifying the right colleges to begin with.
Create an Ideal College Profile (based on GPA/test scores, finances, and priorities).
Start researching and visiting colleges to refine their list.
Senior Year (12th Grade) – Applications, essays, and decisions. Key priorities:
Finalize and submit applications (essays, financial aid, scholarships).
Make strategic choices to maximize affordability.
Plan for college transition success (advising, time management, self-advocacy).
Transitioning to College – Success doesn’t end with admission. The transition phase should focus on:
Developing a support plan (mentors, advisors, student services).
Understanding college expectations (independence, time management).
Preparing for academic & social adjustments to ensure a smooth transition.
Bottom Line:
The best time to start is as early as possible—but whenever you start, you can still create a solid plan. Whether it’s building early habits in middle school or navigating last-minute applications in senior year, strategic planning makes all the difference.
-
It depends on the family’s needs.
The Full Voyage service typically lasts 1–2 years.
Many families only need targeted, on-demand support at key moments.
Affordability & Financial Aid
-
Most consultants focus on how they save families money in the long run—and that’s true. But I understand that you’re concerned about what you can afford right now.
That’s why I offer flexible, affordable options.
The Free Pathfinder Session helps pinpoint where you may need help, so you never have to overpay for unnecessary services.
Many families only need targeted support, which costs a fraction of traditional consulting services.
There’s zero risk in scheduling your Free Pathfinder Session—just expert advice, no sales pitch.
-
Yes, I assist in scholarship searches, but I also ensure families understand:
Private scholarships make up less than 5% of all financial aid—they shouldn’t be the foundation of a college financial plan.
Instead, I help families find quality, affordable colleges where they won’t depend on private scholarships.
-
Yes, but not often. My approach is better suited for middle-class families looking for the best and most affordable colleges they can find.
Most students gain no added value from attending an elite school, so it's somewhat unethical for me to focus only on them.
Instead, I suggest high-quality, affordable alternatives that align with academic and personal needs. If elite schools are among them, great!
If an elite college is your goal and it aligns with your academic and personal needs, then it's my goal, too.
I help students make informed, strategic decisions—whatever their path.
-
Item desYes—because my research-based, data-driven approach is tailored to each student’s specific needs.
Whether they’re academically driven, unsure of their path, or need ongoing support, I’ve helped students just like yours succeed
-
IteAbsolutely! Data is the cornerstone of my approach. I use multiple, reputable data sources, including:
IPEDS, College Scorecard, College Raptor, Georgetown CEW, CollegeData, and more.
If a resource doesn't have solid and reliable data, I won’t use or recommend it.m description
Application & Decision Support
-
YES! You absolutely can! My goal isn’t to sell services you don’t need—it’s to help in the ways that truly matter.
I’d rather provide one small, impactful piece of guidance than oversell a full package.
The Free Pathfinder Session gives you a blueprint to navigate the process with or without additional help.
If you ever need support, I’m here—but only when and how you need it.
No pressure, just honest, expert advice.
-
That’s exactly why I simplify the process for you.
With my step-by-step guidance, you’ll:
Spend less time searching, second-guessing, and stressing.
Have a clear, structured plan that keeps you focused.
Feel supported and confident in every decision.
I handle the complexities—so you can focus on what matters.
-
No—because I focus on adding value, not pressure.
I support students at their own pace, helping them build confidence and motivation.
By focusing on best-fit schools, students can apply to fewer, high-quality colleges, reducing stress and workload.
Clear timelines and structured planning help prevent last-minute panic.
-
That may have been true in the past, but today, many consultants recognize the flaws in rankings.
If I look at rankings, I only consider rankings that focus on affordability and economic-mobility.
More importantly, I rely on college performance data and proprietary student assessments to find high-quality, affordable schools that match individual student needs.
Post-Decision & College Success
-
I'll send you a "thank you" message, along with additional resources and tips over time, and an invitation to schedule a Free Pathfinder Session whenever you’re ready.
-
Most commonly, I help them with a particular need when they need it, but long-term support options can be arranged. Along those lines, I intend to offer a group coaching program for student enrolled in college looking for support along the way.
Logistics & Policies
-
Yes, absolutely! Depending on how we set up the appointment, you can either email me, call/text me, or via a link in the confirmation email if you book online. (I do appreciate at least 24 hours notice.)
-
Schedule a free consultation and we'll go over what you need and discuss how I can help. From there, you choose the support you want.
-
I offer both in general, but it does depend on what your needs are. If I can support you, we can work out an arrangement. If I can't support what you need, short-term or long-term, I'll be upfront about it. I do intend to offer some group-based ongoing support programs in the future.
