If College is on the horizon, it’s time for College Readiness
Welcome to New Horizons
Laying the foundation for college success!
College Readiness isn’t just about grades and test scores—it’s about developing the skills and mindset needed to thrive independently in the unfamiliar and complex environment of college.
That’s why I utilize a research-based approach to college readiness and success emphasizing several non-academic qualities and abilities that determine long-term success but are rarely emphasized in traditional college admissions services.
How I Help Parents Support College Readiness
I help parents understand and recognize practical and powerful strategies they can use to develop the skills and characteristics in their children that prepare them for success in any college environment.
Future Orientation - Helping students visualize their older-selves and identifying how to “get there”.
"Adulting" – Giving students increasing responsibility for their own time, finances, and problem-solving.
Metacognition – Helping their children become aware of their learning strategies and how to improve them.
"Failing Forward" – Normalizing learning from mistakes and setbacks instead of fearing them.
College Expectations – Promoting realistic and informed expectations of the purpose and experience of college.
